Bierzo Tinto "Ultreia St. Jacques", Raul Perez 2018 (Galicia, Spain)

Mostly Mencia with some Bastardo (aka Trousseau) and Garnacha Tintorera (aka Alicante Bouschet) all from organic vineyards planted between 1900 and 1940 in the steep slate hills of Bierzo, then everything is hand harvested and fermented spontaneously with 80% whole cluster in large oak vats. Macerations of between two and five months. Aging in various vessels: 225L, 500L, foudre and cement. Bottled without fining or filtration and just a touch of sulfur. Medium bodied and mineral driven with spiced dark red fruit on a silky frame.
