Wine & Spirit FAQ

Everything in the store is some level of organic, from common sense sustainable to certified organic or biodynamic to off-the-grid moon worshipping hippies making zero-zero natural wine and everything in between. Our selection is focused on European wines, with an emphasis on France and Italy with some gems from the new world sprinkled in selectively.

Biodynamic is always Organic, but Organic is not Always Biodynamic. Biodynamics is a holistic, ecological, and ethical approach to farming, gardening, food, and nutrition started by philosopher Rudolph Steiner in 1924.

There is no strict definition of Natural Wine or Low Intervention winemaking decided by any official governing body, but for us, it means 1) No synthetic chemicals used in the vineyard 2) Grapes are all hand harvested 3) Fermentation is strictly with native yeast 4) Nothing added (like sugar or chemical stabilizers) or taken away (like acid) 5) Bottled with minimal filtration, clarification and sulfur, if any at all.

Orange wine, sometimes referred to as Skin Contact or Macerated whites or Amber wines are wines made with white grapes where the skins are left in contact with the juice for more time than a traditional white wine. No oranges involved, just grapes.

Pet-Nat is short for Petillant Naturel and it refers to the Ancestral Method of making sparkling wine. The Ancestral Method is Different than the Champagne method in that it only has one fermentation instead of two. We love pet-nats because they tend to have softer bubbles than Champagne method wines and are usually easy drinking and made from a wide variety of grapes and regions.
