Backwood Vineyard Sparkling Red "Mother Makes Glucose", Liten Buffel 2018 (New York, United States)

Let's get weird.. This is a field blend of 11 different grapes (red and white, including Chambourcin and Riesling to name a few) along with a few heirloom pears thrown in, all co-planted in the Backwood Vineyard on the New York side of the Niagara Escarpment, not far from the Canadian border. This presents as a light red/dark rose and drinks on the wilder side of a light, lean Lambrusco with a touch of volatile acidity funk. Delicious, but definitely not for everyone.
