Cotes du Rhone Reserve, Matthieu Dumarcher 2016 (Rhone Valley, France)

There is an enjoyable sweep of deep red fruit across the glass, a stylish bouquet that carries flowers and warm, sweet herbs in its wake, also licorice: it is smoky and deep. The palate holds a well-toned fruit and body, a compelling progress along it, serving out black fruit at every pit stop. This is a genuine palate filler with black cherry and free wheeling, enjoyable moments. It is a serious, well above its station Côtes du Rhône, has explosive fruit, an attacking style, abundance and good direction.
