Croatina, Davide Carlone 2017 (Piedmont, Italy)

Finally we head north to Alto Piemonte in the mountains north of Novara to the tiny, almost forgotten area of Boca where Davide grew up among the scattered pockets of vineyards in the forest. While Nebbiolo gets all the hype up here, Croatina might be the most locally prized grape. This one comes from a single vineyard planted in 1935 that has never seen chemicals. This is made all in steel and bottled unfiltered with minimal sulfur added. A truly pure expression of this special grape and special place. Medium to full bodied with dried cherries and smokey minerality and nice firm structure. We also have a few bottles his excellent 2015 Boca HERE.
