Fleurie "La Madone" 2018 $18 Old vine Gamay from the La Madone Vineyard in Fleurie planted on pink granite soil. The grapes are hand harvested and mostly de-stemmed, then wild fermented in concrete and aged all in steel. This is silky and succulent with dark strawberry and crushed flowers on a medium bodied, but almost weightless frame. So pretty.
Saint Amour 2018 $22 Also from old Gamay vines, but further north in the lesser known Cru of Saint Amour, planted on schist and shale on a steep, north facing vineyard. The vinification is the same as above: hand harvested, mostly de-stemmed, wild fermented in concrete and aged in steel. This is more structured and darker fruited than the Fleurie. Drink them side by side for full nerd points!
