Jaen, Insula Barataria 2021 (Sierra de Gredos, Spain)

This is 100% Jaen, which is a type of Malvasia, sometimes called Cayetana in southern Spain, made by Gredos superstar Daniel Ramos who works from two vineyards of old bush trained vines about 850 meters up, all hand harvested, then destemmed and lightly pressed and left on the skins for 17 days, then it ages mostly in steel with just a little bit going into used barrel, then it's all bottled unfiltered with minimal sulfur added. The skin contact puts this in the orange wine category, but it's on the lighter side with beautiful texture and nice ripe fruit with a mineral driven finish.
