Finca Parera Xarel-lo Vermell 2019 $30 This is a mix of old Xarel-lo vines and a plot of younger Xarel-lo Vermell, a pink skinned sister of Xarel-lo, grown and produced by Ruben Parera in Alt Penedes. The grapes are destemmed and left on the skins in cement for 5 days, then pressed off and aged in the same concrete tanks for 10 months before getting bottled unfiltered with no sulfur added. Fresh and chuggable, but textured with a little cidery funk.
Clos Lentiscus Sumoll 2018 $30 Organic Sumoll from old vines in the Parc Natural del Garraf just south of Barcelona, grown and produced by Manel Avinyo. The grapes are fermented whole cluster for 15 days, then pressed off to a mix of old barrel and amphora for a year, then it all gets blended together and rests in steel for another year before getting bottled unfiltered with no sulfur added. Chillable and bright, but complex and layered with lipsmacking wild red berry fruit.
