Monferrato Rosso, Castello di Montegrosso 2005 (Piedmont, Italy)

20% Nebbiolo, 30% Balsamino, 50% blend of Vespolina, Bonarda Piemontese and Uvalino, all from old vines in eastern Piedmont. Macerated, fermented and aged in large grande botte where it rests for 8 years (!!) before bottling unfined and unfiltered, then held back until its ready. 2005 is the current release! Medium plus with layers of earth and spiced dark red fruit. There is truly nothing quite like this.
