Etna Bianco, Eudes 2019 $26 Pure Carricante that is almost shimmering in the glass and on the palate. From older vines, lower on the slopes of Etna, resulting in more fruit presence than minerality. It is pure classic citrus on the front and then long and focused minerality with a great clean finish.
Etna Rosso "Milleottocentoquaranta", Eudes 2017 $40 From organic fruit grown at high altitude (770m) on the slopes of the wine worlds most famous volcano - Mt Etna. Volcanic soils lend this wine an earthy, guttural character, adding layers of complexity to a bright fruited palate and fine grained tannin structure. Extremely old vines - 130 to 140 years old!
Don Pippinu, Vini Scrito 2018 $30 85% Nerello Mascalese and 15% Nerello Cappuccio. Super fresh, exciting style of Etna Rosso, with vibrant cranberry fruit and wonderful roasted herb notes. There’s a charming floral, aromatic feeling to the nose, with something very close to rose petals. What’s great about this is the purity of the fruit, with no distractions from oak (fermentation and ageing were done only in stainless steel tanks). It’s young but already super expressive and drinking nicely, with tannins that are lightly crunchy but in no way dominant or oppressive.
