Rosso di Valtellina, ArPePe 2018 (Lombardy, Italy)

100% Chiavennasca (aka Nebbiolo) from the steep, terraced vineyards of Valtellina, not far from the Swiss border in Lombardy. This wine comes specifically the lower slopes of Grumello and Sassella with vines between 50 and 100 years old, all hand harvested and wild fermented in huge old barrels where the wine ages for the better part of a year. This is a truly special expression of mountain Nebbiolo from THE reference point producer of this region.
